Pioneers Golf Course, One of Nebraska’s Best
The Pioneers Golf Course in Lincoln Nebraska was ranked 10th in the best public course listing by Golf Digest in 1996. The tree lined course features grass bunkers, huge earthy mounds and tree lined fairways as well as challenging water hazards. The signature 13th hole is apar 3, 181 yard shot protected by three trees, grass bunkers and water hazards. This course promises a challenging play to even the most seasoned golfer.
Tee times need to be made at least seven days in advance and begin at 6:00am each day. The Pro Shop opens at 6:00am as well. Walking is allowed on the course but golf carts are also available for rental as well as golf clubs. The turf is bluegrass. The dress code is lenient, only shirt and shoes required.
A lighted driving range is offered with tees on both grass and mats. Practice a few shots before staring out on the course if you arrive early. There is no full bar on site, but beer is available at the snack bar. There is no restaurant at Pioneers, but sustenance can be found elsewhere in Lincoln as the city offers many fine quality establishments
Pioneers Golf Course doesn’t have any sand bunkers so you can leave your shoes on while dislodging your ball from the bunker in this course. This course opened in 1940 and was designed by M. W. Tucker. While it has been around for many years, this course still has much to offer the visitor looking for a challenging 18 holes of golf.
