This resort has three eighteen hole courses and once hosted the PGA Tour's Carolina Open and the Carolina Pro Am. These courses offer a challenge to all skill levels of golfer. Each course is named after the person who designed it. The Jones Course has water hazards coming into play on eleven holes. The fairway on hole #10, a 400-yard, par 4, is bordered entirely by a freshwater lake. The Maples Course is short, narrow and surrounded by homes. The greens are undulating and medium-sized. Water hazards (lakes) come into play at least twelve times. The signature hole is #7, a 410-yard, par 4, requiring shots past trees and over water. "Golf Digest" nominated the Maples Course as one of the most outstanding new resort courses in the country for 1986. The Byrd Course features large and undulating greens, and plush fairways. There are water hazards that come into play several times. For tee time reservations call (910) 287-1100. The golf professional at the Maples Course is Jonathan York, and the professional for the Byrd and Jones Courses is Kevin Lamb. Golf instruction with Dr. Jim Suttie is available at the Sea Trail Learning Golf Center.
