This award winning resort was named to "GOLF Magazine's" 1996 list of "Silver Medal Resorts." The design features two outstanding eighteen hole courses and three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations. Out of the 1,000 acres at Innisbrook, 640 are devoted exclusively to golf. The Copperhead and Island courses are the eighteen hole layouts. The Copperhead Course is long, has undulating hills, extremely narrow fairways, and very tall pine trees that can alter your shots. The signature hole on the Copperhead Course is #16, a 458-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot up a dogleg fairway and around a lake. "Golf Digest" rated Copperhead as the 5th "Best Public Course" in the state for 1966, and the 23rd "Best in State" for 1997-98. The same publication rated it 22nd among the "Top 75 Resort Courses" for 1992, and "GOLF Magazine" ranked it 43rd in the category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for 1996. The other tee shown on the Copperhead Course is a men's professional tee. The Island Course is typically flat and has water hazards coming into play on several holes. There are cypress trees scattered throughout the design. The signature hole on the Island Course is #7, a 561-yard, par 5, also requiring shots around a lake. This course was ranked by "Golf Digest" as being the 71st "Best Resort Course" in the U.S. for 1992. The other shown on the Island Course is an additional men's tee. Both of these courses have fairways that are tight, and greens that are fast and undulating. The other nine hole courses are named the Palmetto, the Palms, and the Pines. These three courses were built on hilly terrain and feature natural lakes and woodlands. The Palmetto, Palms, and Pines courses, known collectively as the Sandpiper Courses, all play relatively the same. All three are demanding because of their narrow fairways and small, undulating greens. These courses meander around streams, lakes and sand bunkers. Wildlife abounds in the surrounding marshlands, creating a feeling of the original environment from which these courses were carved. You must be a guest of the resort to play any of these courses. This resort has hosted a multitude of competitions, including the J. C. Penney Classic and the Florida Open.
